Why do we celebrate Holla Mohalla?

Holla Mohalla Festival is celebrated to remember the heroism of Sikhs in combating against Mughal enemies and hill kings. It was commenced by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a Sikhs gathering for mock battles and military exercises.

It is celebrated a day after Holi, usually in the month of March. It is celebrated annually in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab in India. Hundred and thousands of people flock to Anandpur Sahib Gurudwaras to pay obeisance.

The festival is started by early morning prayers in the Gurudwaras. The three day festival is celebrated with great pomp and show showcasing weapons, exhibitions, and mock battles. The Nihangs who are the beloved army of Guru Gobind Singh Ji are the main attraction. They display their talent in marital arts. The villagers organize community meals or langars and resting place for the pilgrims.
