Why do we celebrate Lajpat Rai Jayanti?

Lala Lajpat Rai Jayanti is celebrated to remember the birthday of Lala Lajpat Rai well known as Sher-e-Punjab or Punjab Kesari. He was one of the great freedom fighter born on 28th January 1865 at Dhudike in the state of Punjab.

He worked with Indian National Congress. In 1928 he demonstrated against Simon Commission of British rule with the help of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. He organized a non violence march but British attacked him with sticks and he died on 17th November 1928.

It is celebrated on 28th January annually. The day is celebrated to pay homage to Lala Lajpat Rai.
