Why do we celebrate Taj Mahotsav?

The Taj Mahotsav Festival reflects the memories of old Mughal era and Nawabi style of 18th and 19th centuries that were dominant in Uttar Pradesh.

It is a ten day festival that occurs from 18th to 27th February in Shilpgram, Agra in India. Approximately 400 artists from several parts of India display extensive crafts, arts, and culture during a ten day event. It is organized by Uttar Pradesh tourism which brings magnificent Indian crafts and Cultural nuances.

The festival begins with a grand parade featuring decorated camels, elephants, master craftsmen, folk artists, drum beaters and trumpet players. The highlights of the festival are classical music and dance performances, traditional Indian food and snake dance of Rajasthan. In spite of this, there are numerous crafts work done from other states which are as follows:

1 Brass wares from Moradabad

2 Chikan work from Lucknow

3 Hand made carpets from Bhadohi

4 Marble and zardozi work from Agra

5 Pottery from Khurja

6 Silk and zari work from Banaras

7 Wood carving from Saharanpur
