Why do we celebrate Vishwakarma Puja?

Vishwakarma Puja is performed to honor Lord Vishwakarma. He was a Principal Universal Architect as believed by the Hindus. He is the sacred craftsmen, the son of Brahma, the creator of ornaments, maker of weapons and the builder of whole palaces of God.

Vishwakarma Puja falls on the day after Diwali festival and is usually celebrated on 16th or 17th September annually by all professionals but mainly by the architectural and engineering community.

The prayer is held mostly in shops, office, factory and workshops. God Vishwakarma and his vehicle, the elephant is worshiped on this day. The workers pray for their success in respective fields, hygienic conditions, smooth functioning of the machines and safe working conditions. In His name the tools are worshiped by the craftsmen. On this day workers take holiday and do not use tools. The free lunch is also organized by some on this day.
