Why do we celebrate Konark Festival?

Konark is a dance festival celebrated for the renewal of Orissi dance from the dissolution as well as making Konark the favorite tourist spot. It first began in 1989 in the open air auditorium in Konark.

Konark Festival

It occurs from 1st to 5th December in Sun Temple Konark, Orrisa in India. It is organized by a Padmashree Awardee Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. He is a social and cultural activist who established Konark Natya Mandap situated at Arka Vihar, Konark.

The festival exhibits classical and traditional dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Chao, Kathakali, Manipuri and Odissi. During the festival one can hear sounds of Pakhauj, Ghungroo bells and flute. The crafts fair is also held where one can find variety of handcrafts.
