Why do we celebrate Army Day?

Army Day attributes an honor given to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in order to protect the nation. In 1948, Lieutenant General K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief on this day.

It is celebrated all over India on 15th January.

Manifold parades and military shows are performed in Delhi as well as on 6 Army Command headquarters. At the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate in Delhi, the day is commenced by paying tribute to the martyred soldiers. Then at the Delhi Cantonment processions and many military shows are performed which exhibits the accomplishment and technology in army. On this event army Medals and Unit credentials are presented annually for gallantry.
