Why do we celebrate Dyngus Day Polish festival?

The Dyngus Day Polish Festival was commenced by the baptism of Prince Mieszko I in 1961. He was the first ruler of Poland who brought Christianity to the country. Later the festival was started in Buffalo. It is a week long festival celebrated on the first Monday after Easter in April month. The event takes place in Buffalo, New York in the United States.

The tradition of this festival was started by splashing water on people on Dyngus Day morning. It was developed into the ritual of young men showing their attraction for a girl by throwing away water on her head and thrashing her legs with branches. The parties begin with a large buffet of traditional Easter food during the mid morning. One can hear polka music on this day with the mandatory dancing of at least one polka.
