Why do we celebrate Mim Kut?

Mim Kut is a festival of maize that is devoted as a tribute to the nature and dead souls. There is a belief that during the festival the dead predecessors visit their family house and an important offering is paid to them.

The three day festival is celebrated in the month of August or September. It is organized all over Mizoram in India.

During the first day offerings such as fresh vegetables, maize, bread, clothes and necklaces are made to the ancestors. Merriments and celebrations are done during the last two days.
