Why do we celebrate World AIDS Day?

World AIDS Day is organized to elevate awareness among people regarding HIV or AIDS and to commemorate those who have died of AIDS. On 1st December 1988 the first World AIDS Day was observed.

The day is held on 1st December each year worldwide. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused due to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It is celebrated so that people become aware and prevent themselves from the disease.
